This will help extend its life and maintain its fuel efficiency and performance. Here are some frequently asked questions you might have about service here at Nick Nicholas Ford Lincoln.
When do I need to change my oil?
Most of us have grown up hearing that you need to change your oil every 3,000 miles. However, with advances in engine technology, this number can be much higher. Check your owner’s manual to see what the manufacturer recommends. Your mileage, however, may be lower or higher than that. If you frequently drive only short distances, you may actually need an oil change sooner.
Should I change my oil filter when I change my oil?
Changing your oil filter is not quite as important as changing your oil, but still important enough that you should try to do so every other oil change. This will prevent your filter from getting clogged up and allowing dirty oil to reach the engine.
When do I need to check my tire pressures?
You should check tire pressures often, about once a month. Underinflated and overinflated tires are both undesirable; the former increases wear and fuel usage and the latter increases the risk of tire failure. You should be able to find the manufacturer’s recommended pressure for your tires (measured in psi) on the tire itself on in the owner’s manual.
Why is my fuel efficiency dropping?
If you’ve noticed a sudden drop in your fuel efficiency, there could be a variety of issues causing the problem. The first and simplest thing to check is your tire pressure. After that checks out, it could be caused by the oxygen sensor, a bad fuel injector, an issue with your transmission, or simply your driving habits.
How often should I change my wiper blades?
The general rule for wiper blades is once a year if you park your car mostly indoors and two or three times a year if you park mostly outdoors. Your eyes are the best tools for knowing when wiper blades need to be changed, though. Once you notice them leaving streaks of water across the windshield when it rains, it’s time to get a new set.
How often should I check my anti-freeze?
Engines are cooled partly by air and partly by the water circulating through the cooling system, but once it starts to freeze outside, so does the water. That’s a quick way to inflict serious damage to the car. Fortunately, anti-freeze prevents that from happening by lowering the freezing temperature of water. Check it once a month while specifically looking out for leaks.
When do I need to get my transmission checked?
It can be hard to know if you’re having a problem with your transmission until a major issue occurs. To keep this from happening, you should have your transmission checked out once every 1-2 years.
How do I know if my brakes are going bad?
Brakes systems have a built-in safety indicator to let you know when the brake pads are getting too thin. You should hear a high-pitched screeching sound when you apply the brakes. If you hear this, or just feel like your brakes aren’t performing like they should, get them inspected as soon as possible.
